In the United States the song was No. 1 for three weeks on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, spending 13 weeks in the top 10 and 32 weeks on the chart overall. It peaked at No. 7 on the Hot 100 where it spent four weeks in the top 10. It also reached No. 7 in Canada.
