About Hale

Hale is a Filipino alternative rock band, formed in Manila, Philippines in 2004. The group was originally consists of singer and guitarist Champ Lui Pio, bassist Sheldon Gellada, guitarist Roll Martinez and drummer Omnie Saroca. From the band's formation, its line-up remained unchanged until the departure of Saroca in 2008. He was replaced by Paolo Santiago and remains as the band's drummer. In March 2017, Chino David of Silent Sanctuary later joined as the fifth member of the band. Hale signed to EMI, now called the PolyEast Records in 2004 and released their self–titled debut album, Hale (2005). The album was critically acclaimed; resulting to their win in the Awit Award’s Group of the Year award. The band’s debut album included the single "The Day You Said Goodnight" brought them to mainstream success in Southeast Asia. The following year, the band released their second studio album Twilight (2006) which received mostly positive reviews and critical success. The band released their third album Above, Over and Beyond (2008) which received generally mixed reviews. It did not come up with expectations as their early albums and saw limited success. It is also the last album featuring original drummer Omnie Saroca. Paolo Santiago (formerly of Join the Club) subsequently replaced him and started recording their fourth effort studio album Kundiman released in 2009. In 2010, the band publicly announced that they had no more plans in producing and creating more music as a band and thus as a result of disbanding as a group. Lead singer Champ Lui Pio announced his intention to start a solo music artist and as an actor. After weeks of speculation of reuniting, the group held their first gig since the break-up in January 2015. Their first single in five years “See You” was debuted in early 2015 and the fifth album Time and Space under Warner Music Philippines was released via iTunes and Spotify after months. In 2016, the group collaborated with singer Sarah Geronimo for the song "The Great Unknown". It was a song written by the band's lead guitarist, Roll Martinez, for Geronimo's twelfth album. The song's music video peaked at no. 1 on both MYX Philippines and MTV Philippines charts.
