鄧麗君

Teresa Teng (traditional Chinese: 鄧麗君; simplified Chinese: 邓丽君; pinyin: Dèng Lìjūn; Jyutping: Dang6 Lai6-gwan1, 29 January 1953 – 8 May 1995) was a Taiwanese singer and a cultural icon, regarded as one of the greatest and most influential singers in the Asian recording industry. Teng's popularity was at its peak throughout the 1970s and 1980s; she remained popular even in the 1990s up until her death in 1995. Her singing style was a soft, almost breathless rendering of sweet melodies that became benchmark for many artists as well as fans during her prime. She was known for her folk songs and ballads, such as "When Will You Return?" "As Sweet as Honey" and "The Moon Represents My Heart". She recorded songs not only in Mandarin but also in Taiwanese Hokkien, Cantonese, Japanese, Indonesian and English. She also spoke French fluently. Till date, her songs have been covered by hundreds of singers around the world. Teng died from a severe respiratory attack while on vacation in Thailand in 1995, at the age of 42. She remains a heroine to Chinese communities for her undying effort and contribution in changing people's lives through her music.
